Chiaroscuro

Starting a new thread of works, making traditional chiaroscuro lino cut relief prints off of photographs. I'm really happy with how these are turning out.

This is my final print for my relief class. Its a 9 by 12 woodcut on shino plywood, only the second cut on wood i've ever done. Again, if you want to guess the riddle please do so discreetly. The final prompt was "Echo." I'm planning on doing some red watercolor hand coloring on these too, more on that later.

I'm super excited about this print. Once again, this is just the block (8 by 10 lino) hence the red color. This will be printed on tee shirts so i'll have more pictures later. This is my band shirt design. I dont have a band, but if i did this would be my design, lol. Yaaaaaaaah 350 PSI!! Hundred points to anyone who gets the joke.

This is another photograph print that i did, this was an 18 by 24 inch linoleum cut print. I was really happy with the way it came out, but i had a holy hell of a time getting it to come out right.

Here's a final print image of my train wheel print, i think it came out pretty well. I was surprised at the relatively small amount of detail that i lost.

Here's the Final image of my mirror painting. I think of it as a self portrait of everyone and the ghosts of possibility.

This is a small woodcut I did this last weekend as a test. I've never actually done a relief cut in wood before, at least not in the style I'm starting to get into. I usually work in linoleum, so this was a test to see how i liked it. I traced the photograph and used it to make the image using tracing paper, and the cut was done on a 4x6 inch piece of shino plywood.
